How to use the grade calculator
Choose what to calculate
Pick My grade for a weighted grade, or Final exam needed to plan for the final.
Enter your grades
Type each score as a percentage, separated by commas. For points like 45/50, enter 90.
Enter the weights
Type one weight per grade in the same order, such as 20, 20, 30, 30. Weights do not need to add up to 100.
Read your result
You get your grade, the letter grade, GPA points and each grade’s contribution.
How grades are calculated
Weighted grade
Grade = Σ(score × weight) ÷ Σ(weights)
Multiply each score by its weight, add them up, and divide by the total weight.
Final exam score needed
Needed = (wanted grade − current grade × (1 − final weight)) ÷ final weight
Final weight is a decimal: 25% = 0.25.
Grade calculator examples
Example 1: a weighted grade
Homework 90% (weight 20), quizzes 80% (weight 30) and exams 70% (weight 50).
A simple average of 90, 80 and 70 would be 80%. The heavy exam weight pulls the grade down.
Example 2: five categories
Scores 95, 82, 74, 88 and 91 with weights 10, 15, 25, 20 and 30.
The two biggest weights (25 and 30) have the most effect on the final number.
Example 3: what do I need on the final?
Your current grade is 84%, the final is worth 25%, and you want an 87% (B+).
With 85% now, a 30% final and a goal of 90%, you would need 101.67%, which is out of reach without extra credit.

Grade calculator FAQ
How do I calculate my weighted grade?
Multiply each score by its weight, add the results, and divide by the sum of the weights. 90, 80 and 70 with weights 20, 30 and 50 give 7,700 ÷ 100 = 77%.
Do the weights have to add up to 100?
No. The calculator divides by the total weight, so 2, 3 and 5 give the same answer as 20, 30 and 50. If your weights add up to less than 100 because some work is still to come, the result is your grade so far.
What score do I need on my final?
Use (wanted grade − current grade × (1 − final weight)) ÷ final weight. With 84% now, a 25% final and an 87% goal, you need 96%.
What letter grade is an 85?
On the common US scale an 85% is a B, worth 3.0 GPA points. Some schools use different cutoffs.
How do I convert points to a percentage?
Divide points earned by points possible and multiply by 100. 45 out of 50 is 90%.
What if all my assignments count the same?
Leave the weights empty. The calculator then gives every grade a weight of 1, which is the same as a simple average.
