How the Easter date is found

Western churches set Easter with a rule based on the calendar and the moon. The calculator uses the standard computus method for the Gregorian calendar, which gives the same dates as the church tables. It counts the days from today to the next Easter Sunday, so no list of dates needs to be updated.

Good Friday = Easter Sunday − 2 days

Orthodox churches use the Julian calendar and often celebrate on a different date, which this calculator does not cover.
